Customary Practices & Traditions
These are separate from the LAWS of the SOCIETY, meant to be a guidance to the Committee. They can modified at any time by the Committee, without having to go to the Society Membership.
DINNER
1. Lounge suits, but black tie is preferred.
2.Grace is said before the Dinner, the Loyal toast, at the end.
3.The Secretary introduces new Members-elect, announces Deaths (with some back-round information), reads the Minutes (with a brief synopsis of the presentation at the previous dinner).
THE PRESIDENT
1. Organises the programme of entertainment and speakers for the coming presidential year, being responsible for the Speaker’s fees, travel and accommodation costs.
2. Organises for a Member to propose a vote of thanks and present the engraved goblet to the Speaker. 3. The new President will pin the Rhino badge on the outgoing President, who shall then propose the vote of thanks at the end of the Presidential Address.
SOCIETY BUSINESS AT THE AGM
1. Presentation the Reports from: SECRETARY, TREASURER, ARCHIVIST.
2. Election of Associate and Honorary members.
3. Announce the name of the President-Elect.
THE SOCIETY SHALL PAY FOR:
1. Dinner for the invited Speaker and partner; the Secretary; and Honorary members (at their election). 2. The Rhino pins and Engraved goblets.
THE COMMITTEE SHALL:
1. Select the President-elect from the membership, alternating between G.Ps and Consultants, who must be in active practice, or under 65 years of age, when selected. Consideration should be given as to when they joined, their involvement and contribution to the Society.
2. Propose as Associate members, the partners of deceased Members, who may so request. 3. Appoint Assistants to the Secretary or Archivist, as deemed necessary. 4. Make donations to the Humane Society and Royal Medical Benevolent Fund and to other worthy medical causes.
5. Accept Bequests and Donations made to the Society.
